Using AI on KDP responsibly: the disclosure rules
KDP separates AI-generated from AI-assisted content. Here is what you must disclose.
Platform rules change often. Requirements below were checked against official pages in October 2026; always confirm on the linked source before applying.
Amazon KDP requires you to tell it about AI-generated content (text, images or translations) when you publish or republish a book. You do not need to disclose AI-assisted content (KDP content guidelines).
| Type | KDP definition (summarised) | Disclose? |
|---|---|---|
| AI-generated | An AI tool created the actual content, even if you edited it substantially afterwards. Includes cover and interior images. | Yes |
| AI-assisted | You created the content and used AI to edit, refine, error-check, or brainstorm ideas. | No |
Either way, you are responsible for making sure the content follows all KDP guidelines, including intellectual property rights (KDP).
Responsible workflow
- Use AI to brainstorm outlines and edit your own writing.
- Fact-check everything; never publish unedited output.
- Keep notes on which tools produced what, so your disclosure is accurate.
